Behavioral immune system
A set of automatic psychological responses that help people detect and avoid things that might carry disease, such as contaminated food or sick individuals. These reactions, such as disgust or fear, can also be triggered by people perceived as unfamiliar or different, especially in messaging that associates outsiders with danger or contamination.
